LA CIUDAD DESAPARECIDA. Una niña pasea distraída junto a sus amigos por las calles mojadas del casco antiguo de Palma. Es temprano y hace frío. Pronto llegará la Navidad. Las tiendas alzan un día más las persianas metálicas, mientras el aroma a café se filtra a través de las puertas de los viejos cafés de barrio. Un hombre lee una carta junto a un buzón, tal vez de amor o tal vez de despedida, mientras los coches avanzan lentamente entre los edificios centenarios de la hermosa ciudad desparecida.

THE VANISHED CITY. A young girl walks absent-mindedly with her friends along the wet streets of Palma’s old town. It’s early morning, and cold. Christmas will be here soon. For yet another day the shops haul up their metal blinds while the aroma of coffee filters through the doors of the neighbourhood’s old cafés. A man reads a letter beside a letterbox – maybe a love letter, or a letter of farewell – while the cars advance slowly among the ancient buildings of the beautiful vanished city.

DIE VERSCHWUNDENE STADT. Ein kleines Mädchen schlendert abgelenkt mit ihren Freunden durch die nassen Straßen der Altstadt von Palma. Es ist früh am Morgen und es ist kalt. Bald ist Weihnachten. Die Geschäfte ziehen noch einmal ihre Metalljalousien hoch, und aus den Türen der alten Cafés des Viertels strömt der Duft von Kaffee. Ein Mann liest neben einem Briefkasten einen Brief, vielleicht einen Liebesbrief oder einen Abschiedsbrief, während die Autos langsam an den hundert Jahre alten Gebäuden der schönen Stadt vorbeifahren, die mittlerweile verschwunden ist.

EL JARDINERO QUE FUE AL CIELO. El 2 de abril de 2015 falleció Bert, el padre de Gary Bunt (East Peckham, Inglaterra, 1957). Al día siguiente Gary dibujó una escalera que ascendía al cielo y a su padre subiendo por ella, bajo la atenta mirada de su perro, su fiel compañero en vida. Nueve años después, aquel dibujo ha dado lugar a una serie de cuadros y poemas titulada “El Jardinero que fue al cielo”. Una oda al hombre corriente llena de belleza y esperanza.

THE GARDENER WHO WENT TO HEAVEN. On 2 April 2015 Bert, the father of Gary Bunt (East Peckham, England, 1957) passed away. The next day Gary drew a stairway that led up to heaven with his father going up it, under the watchful gaze of his dog, his faithful companion in life. Nine years later, that drawing has given rise to a series of paintings and poems entitled “The Gardener Who Went To Heaven”. An ode to the ordinary man, full of beauty and hope.

Am Tag danach zeichnete Gary ihn, auf einer Treppe, die in den Himmel führte, mit dem Blick auf seinen Hund gerichtet, seinem treuen Lebensgefährten. Neun Jahre danach, führte diese Zeichnung zu einer Serie von Bildern und Gedichten mit dem Titel „Der Gärtner der in den Himmel aufstieg“.
