For as long as I can remember photos have held a special place in my life.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I remember visiting my Grandma as a kid and every trip, without fail, I would spend hours laying on her living room floor, poring over her many photo albums and imaging the lives and circumstances of my distant (and not so distant) relatives.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I have way too many embarrassing pr***en selfies and was a regular at the Target Photo Center where I developed alllll my disposable camera film. (anyone else?!)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As I grew up I bought a DSLR, honed in on my craft, and have been so honored to photograph weddings, travels, families, babies, friends.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
All these experiences later, let me just tell you how much, deep in my gut, I LOVE travel photography. I love meandering a city, new or familiar, and looking for a picturesque corner, a special detail, or an unexpected view. I love the spark I feel when I get a shot that captures the moment, the feel of the place.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And, like my grandma’s old albums, I love looking back on travel photos and feeling like I’m not in my apartment, but instead on a sunny beach, sitting at a café, or getting lost in an unfamiliar but beautiful place.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This month I turned a year older and since I’ve been thinking about and talking through what that means for me as a person, and more specifically, as a woman.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Mostly, I’ve been ruminating on what it means to be a fully capable and independent woman.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'm trying to kick this notion that I need other people's direction or constant affirmation but instead trust that my intuition and wisdom can be enough. It's not my responsibility to explain myself or my decisions to everyone.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I can trust myself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I trust the insight of my closest people.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That is enough.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'm working on believing this and leaving the rest by the wayside. And let me tell you, IT FEELS SO GOOD.
