📌 What is soil pH and why is it so important?

Scientifically, pH is defined as the amount of free hydrogen ions present in the soil, and is expressed in the concept of acidity, according to the following scale, ranging from 0 to 14:

* Acid: up to 6.5.
* Neutral: 7.
* Basic or alkaline: from 7.5.

The pH level is very important to know the health of your soil, as well as to determine which crops are more suitable. The pH influences all chemical reactions of living organisms and inorganic elements, as is the case of the soil, in which it also conditions the state of the plants that live in it.
The well-being of the different microorganisms present in the soil depends on the pH of the soil, since each one has an optimum level and cannot live in another range. Because of this, the types of life and chemical reactions are different in acidic and basic environments.

We can also apply this factor to plants. Some of them, the so-called acidophiles, can live in acidic soils, while the so-called basophiles prefer basic reactions.

MAKING YOUR FIELD SUSTAINABLE

Remote sensing through aerial imagery is a promising tool in agriculture. The images make it possible to locate specific areas of a plot that require inspection. With the use of these tools we can detect damage that escapes the perception of the human eye and thus act in anticipation of the problem.
