Can I drink the tap water in Valencia?

The tap water in Valencia may have a strange taste to you but it is perfectly fine and healthy to drink.

So... If it´s safe, why does it have such a bad taste?

The water in Valencia is a hard water, due to the amount of calcium and salt, that find their way into the supply from the mountains. This means that the final result and taste of each water supply depends a lot on the terrain that it has had to travel through in order to arrive at our taps. Generally, the water is filtered and clorinated but it is thanks to the high levels of calicum minerals in the water supply that makes it have a strange taste.

Aside from this, there are other factors that affect the taste of water like for example, it´s temperature (as with any drink, cold water doesn´t taste the same as warm water), the amount of chlorine in the supply and how long the water has been in the container for. These are all important factors, but without a doubt, the biggest reason for strange tasting water in Valencia is due to it´s high levels of calcium.

What do you think about the taste of tap water in Valencia? How does it compare to your home country? Leave us a comment below :)
