That was the we faced when designing a low-noise propeller for an oceanographic vessel built by ARMON SHIPYARDS.
Oceanographic and research ships operate under stringent underwater noise limits (ICES 209) — requiring extreme precision in design to minimize vibration, cavitation, and radiated noise.
Our engineering team at developed a fully optimized propeller design, combining:
▪️ Advanced simulations (resistance, wake, and self-propulsion)
▪️ Geometry tailored to the vessel’s operational profile
▪️ Noise and cavitation-sensitive features like custom sectional profiles and anti-singing edges
✅ The result: compliance with ABS requirements, reduced vibration, better comfort, and underwater noise levels well within ICES 209 standards.
