Access to safe services is a foundational pillar for children’s development, health, safety and academic success. 👧👦
As we mark the Day of the African Child 2026 this week, we are highlighting how COWASH IV’s institutional School WASH interventions focus on creating a supportive learning environment through:
💧 Climate-Resilient Infrastructure: Providing safe water points directly on school grounds so children spend their valuable time in classrooms rather than walking long distances to collect water.
🚽 Improved Latrines and Washing Facilities: Constructing institutional latrines alongside functional handwashing stations to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases and ensure proper school hygiene.
🚺 Dignified Menstrual Hygiene Management ( ) Centres: Constructing private, secure MHM Centers that include a counselling room, resting and changing areas, and a shower room, actively helping to reduce school absenteeism among adolescent girls.
🧼 Hygiene Promotion: Partnering with school clubs to foster life-long hygiene practices among students, empowering them to act as health ambassadors in their own homes and communities.
By investing in child-responsive infrastructure today, COWASH IV is helping build a healthier, more equitable future for the next generation.
