Justice and security actors from the Somali Regional State are attending a training workshop on “Access to Inclusive Justice for Refugee Children in Ethiopia.”

The training aims to strengthen the understanding, knowledge and capacity of trainees to help them better respond to the unique justice needs of refugee children.

Through experience sharing, discussions and technical sessions, participants are exploring ways to ensure that refugee children have access to friendly, inclusive and rights-based justice services.

The workshop also seeks to deepen their awareness on legal and institutional frameworks governing refugee protection in Ethiopia, while reinforcing coordinated efforts among justice and security institutions to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugee children.

By equipping frontline actors with the necessary knowledge and tools, the initiative contributes to strengthening protection systems and advancing equitable access to justice for the most vulnerable members of the refugee community.

The training workshop, being held in Jigjiga city, is organized by Refugees and Returnees Service (RRS) with the financial assistance of UNICEF.

Refugees and Returnees Service (RRS), with financial support from UNICEF, is providing training in Semera Town to Refugee Community Representatives on the Justice for Children Training Manual, with a particular focus on refugee children in Ethiopia.

The initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of community representatives in promoting child protection and ensuring access to justice within refugee settings.

The training seeks to improve participants’ understanding of child rights and legal protection frameworks, strengthen knowledge of child-sensitive justice procedures, enhance case identification, referral and follow-up mechanisms, promote prevention and response to Violence Against Children (VAC), and reinforce coordination among key stakeholders.

The sessions cover key thematic areas, including legal and policy frameworks for child protection, core principles of Justice for Children, child-friendly communication and ethical standards, case management and referral pathways, as well as community roles in preventing and responding to violence against children.

The training forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen child protection and justice systems in refugee settings through the capacity building of community representatives and committees.
