Public Statement from Goi Dep Tew

On Monday evening, May 26, 2025, at 5:06 PM , while on an official visit to the Amhara Region to collect my Bachelor’s degree official documents, Student Transcript copy and English Language proficiency letter, I was the victim of an armed robbery. The incident occurred in the Alemsaga forest near Debre Tabor Town, where I was intercepted by a militant group identifying themselves as the White Army, known locally as FANO forces. They forcibly took my 63-gram silver, Rolex watch and pocket money 2,500 Ethiopian Birr. This was not only a deeply distressing experience but also a clear violation of human rights and personal security.

To all my dear students and colleagues at Debre Tabor University (DTU) and beyond, I strongly advise you to remain alert and cautious. Protect your mobile phones, laptops, and other electronics, and avoid carrying large amounts of money when traveling. What happened to me is a stark reminder that no one is fully safe while these unlawful groups continue to operate with impunity. I call on the Ethiopian government and security authorities to take immediate and firm action against those who rob, intimidate, and endanger innocent civilians.
I remain committed to my work and to building a better future for my country through education, justice, and peaceful advocacy. Let us stay strong, stay united, and raise our voices for safety, justice, and accountability.

Despite this incident, I thank God for guiding me safely through the journey. I was able to complete my mission in the region and have now returned safely to Addis Ababa.
