Our Story

Thank you for checking out Emmanuel Development Association (EDA's) page! EDA was established in 1996. I would like to thank my mother who inspired and given me the vision to establish EDA to support the poorest of the poor marginalized children in Ethiopia. I am the Founder and Executive Director of EDA. My name is Dr. Tessema Bekele. EDA started off by supporting 30 children from my family contribution to support young children in receiving education, and now we have over 4.1 million beneficiaries in different regions in Ethiopia including women, children, and youth. About 14,000 unemployed youth trained in different business skills and got the opportunity to access finance and started the group and personal business since 2009. Majority of the trained youth become middle-income businessmen and women. The quality of education program, for example, the early childhood development program, lower primary and upper primary schools addressing over 500,000 children and the 60% of the school children are girls. The WASH integrated with livelihood and community health program addressing over 265,000 community groups. The child protection and trafficking/migration program is supporting and addressing over 1,788,250 marginalized and abused young children different services. The smallholder capacity building and food security program addressing over 553750 rural farmers. We still scaling -up based on the strategic planning of EDA 2015-2019 in different operation areas in (four regions) in Ethiopia. As trusted and reliable development partners, EDA would like to commend the commitments of our keen donors and stakeholders for their unreserved financial and technical support since we started operating in Ethiopia.
