Grace Road Group Compliant with Stop Work Notice, Says SCC

The Suva City Council (SCC) has clarified that Grace Road Group is complying with the Stop Work Order issued in relation to its Princes Road development amidst online commentary suggesting otherwise.

The clarification follows recent public discussion and social media posts questioning whether work had continued at the site despite the Stop Work Notice remaining in place.

The issue gained attention after a short video and several photos were circulated online, with some viewers interpreting the footage as evidence of ongoing construction activity.

However, the SCC has clarified that the footage showed materials being unloaded at the site, rather than active construction works being carried out.

Council officials noted that, when viewed without full context, the unloading of materials could be mistaken by members of the public for construction activity.

According to the SCC, the outstanding matter preventing the lifting of the Stop Work Order is the additional approval from the Fiji Roads Authority in relation to the Traffic Impact Assessment, following the revised design.

The Council has confirmed that once it receives communication from the Fiji Roads Authority confirming approval of the updated TIA, the Stop Work Notice can be lifted.

The SCC has also confirmed that no political office holder, politician, or political figure has been involved in the Council's assessment, approval, or enforcement processes relating to the development. Council officials emphasised that all decisions concerning the Stop Work Notice and associated applications have been made through the Council's normal regulatory processes and in accordance with applicable requirements.

The Stop Work Notice was issued after the SCC determined that, due to the revised design, an updated traffic impact assessment was also required and had not yet been completed as part of the approval process.
