Meet Masato Abe, a former Apple employee from Japan who joined the United Nations nearly 30 years ago to drive sustainable development. Today, he serves as an Economist for the UN Multi Country Office in Micronesia.

Masato’s team navigates complex economic challenges across the Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, and Palau.

When it came to launching his massive new 2026 Micronesia report, Masato turned to UNV Online Volunteers to handle the vast ocean of data.

Online volunteers collected, cleaned, and analyzed datasets across multiple countries, expanding the depth of the entire report. Their virtual teamwork has real-world impact.

Together, Masato and his online volunteers have published over 20 studies with nearly 15,000 global downloads.
