Izumo MiLight Illuminations 2025 ✨

Every December, Japan prepares for the Christmas season by setting up elaborate light displays across the country. In Izumo, most of the illumination displays are located near Izumo-shi Station, but a special one called “MiLight Izumo” is being held in Dandan Square next to Izumo City Hall. This display is a collaboration between the Izumo Young Entrepreneurs Group and the Youth Department of Shimane Prefecture Electrical Work Industry Association.

This year, thanks to financial support from local businesses and a crowdfunding campaign, they were able to create locally produced illuminations based on the theme “Let's weave a bright future together.”

🗓️Dates: Every day from the 6th of December 2025 until the 16th of January 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
📍Place: Dandan Square, next to Izumo City Hall

May 15th: Second Celebrations

On the 15th, the second day of celebrations starts at 9am.

An imperial procession of the divine palanquins (mikoshi) is held from noon. The palanquins are carried around by the Taisha area’s shrine parishioners, alongside a children’s parade.
Kagura dances are performed as offerings to the gods.
