We were stunned to learn through unofficial channels of the closure of Movistar Plus+'s Short Film Department (Spain) and the departure of Guadalupe Arensburg, who headed it for more than thirty years.

Throughout all these years, Guadalupe Arensburg championed works from around the world, mentored generations of filmmakers and supported, at a very early stage, the debut films of Ladj Ly, Yorgos Lanthimos and Alberto Vázquez. Movistar Plus+ is today the leading European buyer of French short films (source: Unifrance).

This announcement signals the decline of the space dedicated to short films within major broadcasters, even though the format is an essential pillar of filmmaking. We sincerely hope this decision is neither final nor irreversible, and that dialogue is still possible.

Nous avons appris avec stupeur, de manière non officielle, la fermeture du département courts métrages de Movistar Plus+ (Espagne) et le départ de Guadalupe Arensburg, qui l'a dirigé pendant plus de trente ans.

Durant toutes ces années, Guadalupe Arensburg a défendu des œuvres du monde entier, accompagné des générations de cinéastes et soutenu très tôt les premiers films de Ladj Ly, Yorgos Lanthimos ou Alberto Vázquez. Movistar Plus+ est aujourd'hui le premier acheteur européen de courts métrages français (source Unifrance).

Cette annonce symbolise le recul des espaces consacrés au court métrage chez les grands diffuseurs, alors que ce format est un pilier essentiel de la création cinématographique. Nous espérons que cette décision n'est ni définitive ni irréversible, et qu'un dialogue est encore possible.
