Paris’s First Public Clock Still Watches Over The Île de la Cité.

Commissioned by King Charles V in 1370 and made by the clockmaker Henri de Vic, it was installed on the Tour de l’Horloge of the former royal palace, now part of the Conciergerie. The ornate face seen today was later embellished in the 16th century, with royal symbols and figures of Law and Justice.
