How is your blood sugar?
Many people don't realise that blood sugar swings can have a huge impact on how we feel.
When blood sugar drops too low (hypoglycaemia), or when insulin resistance causes unstable blood sugar, you may experience:
• Anxiety
• Shakiness
• Heart palpitations
• Irritability
• Brain fog
• Poor concentration
• Low mood
• Fatigue
• Cravings, especially for sugar
These symptoms can feel frightening and, in some cases, may even mimic anxiety or panic attacks.
That doesn't mean anxiety or depression are "just caused by diet," and medication is absolutely the right choice for some people. But if your nutrition, blood sugar and metabolic health haven't been looked at, and you do not feel there is anything you have going on that is causing stress in your life - its worth looking at your diet.
The food that worked for you in your 20s may not be what your body needs in your 40s or during perimenopause. As we age, hormones change, insulin sensitivity can decline, and our bodies often become less forgiving of ultra-processed foods and constant sugar spikes.
Instead of reaching for another coffee or sugary snack, try:
✔ Eating enough protein at each meal
✔ Including healthy fats
✔ Choosing fibre-rich carbohydrates
✔ Avoiding long periods without eating if you struggle with blood sugar dips
✔ Prioritising sleep and movement
Your brain is one of the most energy-demanding organs in your body. Keeping blood sugar stable gives it the fuel it needs to function well.
Sometimes, supporting your metabolism is an important piece of the puzzle.
This post isn't medical advice, and you should never stop prescribed medication without speaking to your healthcare provider.
One of the biggest misconceptions about treatment is that more time between appointments is always fine.
Sometimes it is.
Sometimes it isn't.
For many chronic conditions, the early stages of treatment are about creating momentum. That's why I may recommend booking your first three appointments one week apart before we reassess.
As my diary has become busier, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to accommodate weekly appointments at short notice. Booking your recommended appointments in advance helps us stay on track and gives your body the best opportunity to respond.
This isn't about selling more appointments—it's about recommending the treatment frequency I believe will give you the best chance of achieving your goals.
Every client is different, and every recommendation is based on your assessment, presentation and progress.
My aim has always been the same: to help you improve, educate you about your body and support you into maintenance—not keep you in treatment longer than you need. 🫶

Read my latest blog on Lipoedema and share with anyone who thinks they may have Lipoedema. I have clients who have been treated very poorly by their GP's around this condition. This is because historically, the NHS does not recognise it. Hopefully this is beginning to change, but as with most chronic conditions - becoming your own expert is key 🔑

If you've looked into lipedema online recently, you've probably seen people talking about inflammation, fascia, diet, and the lymphatic system.
So... is it all just another wellness trend?
Not quite.
The science is evolving, and researchers are beginning to understand that lipedema is much more than "abnormal fat." It appears to involve inflammation, connective tissue, blood vessels, hormones, cellular energy production, and, over time, the lymphatic system.
That doesn't mean we've found a cure, and it doesn't mean every new therapy lives up to the hype.
What it does mean is that we're starting to understand why people experience pain, heaviness and tissue changes—and why treatment is often most effective when it's multifaceted.
As a therapist and educator, I believe it's important to stay curious, follow the evidence, and avoid making promises the science can't yet support.
There are no magic fixes, but there is exciting research that may shape the future of lipedema care.
