š· With talk of potential cyber attacks and payment system outages, many people are now considering keeping cash at home as a backup.
MSN, The Telegraph and radio station LBC have reported today that the public should consider hoarding cash in case of blackouts, emphasising how MPs have called on Downing Street to highlight āthe value of physical cash in emergency preparednessā and stating that the Commons treasury committee issued the warning following massive blackouts in Spain and Portugal, which left millions unable to pay with their bank cards.
If you decide to store cash, ensure itās properly protected. A professionally specified and installed safe is the most secure option. š
Hereās what to keep in mind:
ā
Always have your safe professionally specified. A specialist locksmith will be able to advise on the correct Cash Rating for the amount you're storing (or indeed any other valuables you will be protecting).
ā
Always have your safe professionally installedāif itās not fitted correctly, a burglar could just pick it up and walk off with it!
ā
Choose a safe with the right Cash Rating for the amount you're storing.
ā
Fix it to a solid wall or floorāideally part of your home's structure.
ā
Keep it hiddenāinside a cupboard, under the floor, or in a fitted wardrobe.
