📍“WHAT HAPPENED ON THE 2nd DAY OF MUHARRAM”?📍

Today is the 2nd of Muharram, the day on which Imam Hussayn arrived in Karbala.

On the 8th of Dhul Hijja Imam Hussayn decided not to do Hajj and instead would start his journey to Karbala to save Islam.

It is on the 2nd of Muharram where he was confronted by one of Yazeeds army general named Sayyiduna Hur by whom he was asked to accept the Caliphate of Yazeed to which Imam Hussayn refused and said Yazeed is a corrupt man and will destroy the culture and peace of Islam.

Imam Hussayn arrived at a place and asked the locals what this place was called to which they replied "NAINAWA" which some old men said is "Karbala". After hearing this Imam Hussayn ordered his men to stop and start camping here, and then he told, “This is the place about which was mentioned to me by my grandfather and my father. We will stay here and our blood will be spilled here and our women and children will be made captive here.” Then he described different places and spoke about them.

He said, “My son Ali Akbar will be killed here, my nephew Qasim will be killed over there and my brother Abbas will be killed here close by the river and at the end, I will be slaughtered here”. The Womenfolk and child’s of Imam Hussayn were also listening to all this and then ended by saying “... and my son Ali Asghar will be killed by a spear over here....” his daughter Skina finally asked “O my father, will the tyrants enter our camps” then he replied “not until I am alive, I will carry Ali Asghar myself into the battle field". My brothers and sisters, today Islam is alive because of this sacrifice of Imam Hussayn. We learn many things from this tragedy of Karbala.

One which comes to mind is that Imam Hussayn told his people to turn back around and go back because Yazeed only wanted him dead, but his people stood by his side.

This is what real loyalty is about May Allah elevate the ranks of the martyrs of Karbala. Ameen.
