His amazing niece, ⁠Darcey, has been dedicating her time to spreading awareness about something we are passionate about: water safety.

You are never too young to make a real difference, and you are never too young to learn something that could save a life.

Water safety is so much more than just knowing how to swim; it's about respecting the water and being prepared. Education is our strongest tool against preventable tragedies.

Here are a few key takeaways she’s been sharing that apply to all of us:

For the Little Ones: It’s about building early confidence, learning basic survival skills (like rolling onto your back to float), and understanding that you never go near the water without an adult.

For the Teens: It's about looking out for your friends, understanding the dangers of rip currents or unseen obstacles, and wearing life jackets on open water.

For the Adults: You are NEVER too old to brush up on your skills! It means staying 100% vigilant without distractions, knowing how to spot the silent signs of drowning, and learning or refreshing your CPR certification.

Let’s all take a page out of Darcey’s book today; have a conversation with your family about your water safety rules, look into local swimming or survival classes, and never underestimate the power of being prepared.

Lagan Search and Rescue was delighted to be invited to attend the graduation ceremony at Oldpark Nursery School.
It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate this important milestone with the children, their families, and the dedicated school staff. We would like to congratulate all of the graduates as they prepare for their next big adventure at primary school.
We were also incredibly grateful to receive a generous donation from the staff and parents of Oldpark Nursery School. Their kindness and support will help us continue our lifesaving work and community water safety education across the area.
