🇨🇳 China’s Hidden Weakness: Oil Dependence
Most people don’t realise how vulnerable China is when it comes to energy. Beijing relies heavily on cheap oil from Venezuela, Iran, and Russia.
🔹 Venezuela: Once supplied ~400,000 barrels/day. That’s now essentially gone.
🔹 Iran: Sends ~1.5 million barrels/day, but internal unrest makes that supply increasingly unstable.
🔹 Russia: Still a major supplier, but access depends on Arctic and North Atlantic routes.
China’s strategic reserves cover about 90 days in normal conditions.
Remove Venezuela and Iran from the equation, and that cushion drops to around 45 days—nowhere near enough to survive a prolonged naval blockade or major conflict.

🌍 So where does Greenland fit into this?
When President Trump talked about the strategic value of Greenland, it wasn’t about grabbing oil. The U.S. already has plenty.
It was about chokepoints.
Greenland’s location gives the U.S. leverage over:
• Russian Arctic shipping routes
• The North Atlantic
• European energy corridors
Control those, and China’s access to Russian oil becomes far more complicated.

⛽ The bigger picture:
China imports roughly 70% of its oil.
If those routes are restricted, China faces:
• Soaring energy costs
• Economic instability
• Severely limited military reach
This isn’t about taking resources—it’s about denying China the energy it needs to project power. Greenland is a strategic puzzle piece in a much larger geopolitical game.
