Earlier this year, the UK government announced major changes to refugee protection rules, meaning some refugees could now face reviews of their status every 30 months rather than being given longer-term certainty. Between 2011 and 2021, more than 30,000 Syrians were granted asylum in the UK, with many rebuilding their lives in Welsh communities, including Cardiff. However, refugee advocates say rebuilding a life requires stability, not just safety, and the ability to plan for the future.
