A woman who sold fake Taylor Swift concert tickets to teenage girls and friends in her own community has been given a suspended prison sentence.
Amy Rees, 38, from Nantymoel in Bridgend appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court where she admitted defrauding 12 people out of more than £3000.
Prosecutors said Rees offered tickets through social media and local community WhatsApp groups.
The court heard how many of the victims knew her personally and several parents bought the ‘tickets’ as gifts for their teenage children.
In victim statements read to the court, one mother said the tickets have been a Christmas present for her daughter, who was left “devastated” when they failed to materialise.
Another victim said she had “trusted Rees as a friend”, whilst one woman had known her for 36 years after growing up on the same street.
Rees was sentenced to 35 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months. She was also ordered to complete rehabilitation and pay £1,076 in compensation to victims.
