Yesterday was one of my favourite days of every course.

Micro-teach day.

A group of people from completely different backgrounds.

Government, charities, business owners and individual learners. Different professions. One shared goal.

To become qualified to teach.

And what a day they gave us.

We learnt about the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), planning successful events, understanding timing in music, learning languages more effectively, making skull candles and so much more.

I always encourage learners to teach something they know well, whether it's a professional skill, a passion or a hobby. Every single micro-teach is a reminder that expertise comes in so many different forms.

But the biggest lesson isn't on the slides.
It's watching complete strangers become a supportive learning community. Encouraging each other. Celebrating each other's successes.

Watching them grow in confidence with every presentation and sharing the learning with each others was fantastic to be part of.

I'm incredibly proud of every one of them.

Today we celebrate another incredible group of newly qualified trainers. 🎓

Their micro-teach sessions covered topics as diverse as the people delivering them:

Every cohort reminds me that there is no such thing as a “typical” learner.

This month our classroom brought together professionals from government departments, the charity sector, education, self-employed business owners and industry leaders. Different careers. Different experiences and shared goal.

To learn how to teach.

Watching complete strangers become a supportive learning community, grow in confidence and deliver such engaging sessions is one of the best parts of my job.

Today they receive their Level 3 Award in Education and Training certificates, but I know this is only the beginning. Some will return to complete their assessor and IQA qualifications.

Others will go on to train colleagues, open their own academies, inspire future learners and create opportunities they hadn’t imagined just a few weeks ago.

Congratulations to every one of you. It has been a privilege to be part of your journey, and I can’t wait to see where teaching takes you next.

Day 2 of the Education and Training Award.

Yesterday, strangers became a team. Today, ideas become reality.

One of my favourite parts of delivering this qualification is watching the lightbulb moments happen. The nerves of Day 1 give way to growing confidence as learners create and refine the lessons they'll soon deliver.

Every course reminds me that this is about far more than gaining a qualification, it's about opening doors to new careers, businesses and opportunities.

Sometimes I stop and read through our learner feedback, and I have to pinch myself.

People rarely talk about the qualification first.

Instead they say:
“I believe in myself now.”
“I didn’t want the course to end.”
“I finally found my confidence.”
“I felt safe.”
“I felt seen.”
“My whole career has changed.”

That means more to me than any certificate ever could.

At Petals, we don’t just teach. We create an environment where people can ask questions without fear, make mistakes without judgment, and discover strengths they didn’t know they had.

Whether someone arrives feeling overwhelmed, anxious or convinced they’re “not academic”, my job is to help them leave knowing they absolutely can do it.

Qualifications open doors, but confidence changes lives.
