'We design people out of nature.'
Bethany Handley speaks about the barriers that prevent disabled people from accessing and enjoying the outdoors, and why our right to nature is just as valid as that of non-disabled people.
How accessible are Wales' green spaces in your area?
Disabled Monmouthshire author 'padlocked' out of nature Bethany Handley says design, not disability, makes green spaces inaccessible for people like her.

🚨 Last week, we submitted our response to the Timms Review of Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
The evidence we gathered from disabled people across Wales is clear: PIP is a foundational part of independent living.
Our submission highlights the role PIP plays in meeting the additional costs of disability and raises concerns about proposals that could restrict access to support, barriers within the assessment process, and the impact of benefit insecurity on health, wellbeing and employment.
We are calling for reforms that are developed with disabled people from the outset and rooted in dignity, inclusion and fairness.

1. Do not proceed with eligibility tightening measures that reduce access to PIP
2. Protect PIP as a non-means-tested, cost-of-disability benefit
3. Reform the assessment process
4. Remove financial barriers to accessing evidence
5. Give greater weight to clinical and practitioner evidence
6. Reduce reassessments for long-term and degenerative conditions
7. Embed safeguarding and risk assessment into PIP policy
8. Explore the devolution of disability benefits to Wales
