Summer is peak season for phishing and impersonation scams.
School holidays + staff annual leave = the perfect storm for cybercriminals.

Every summer, phishing emails, invoice fraud and impersonation attacks rise sharply - targeting businesses when teams are stretched and response times slow down.

Here’s how to keep your business safe this summer:
• Verify payment requests - especially if they come from someone “on holiday”.
• Double check email addresses - small changes are easy to miss.
• Use MFA everywhere to block account takeovers.
• Warn staff about urgent tone messages (“Are you in the office? I need a favour”).
• Have a clear approval process so scammers can’t exploit gaps in cover.

Smart monitors threats, protects your systems and keeps your business secure - even when your team is away.

Stay safe this summer. www.smart.uk.com

The heat is back - and your IT can feel it.

High temperatures can cause devices to slow down, overheat or fail altogether, especially laptops, desktops and server equipment. In some cases, heat can cause permanent damage.

We'd like to remind everyone of the importance of keeping IT equipment cool, and well ventilated during the current heatwave - and ideally throughout the year!

Remember, computers, servers, networking equipment and other electronic devices generate heat as part of their normal operation. Here are a few quick ways to keep your tech cool this week:

- Ensure vents and fans are free from dust and obstructions.
- Keep devices out of direct sunlight - even 10 minutes on a warm desk can raise internal temperatures.
- Keep server rooms and comms cabinets well ventilated.
- Check that air conditioning systems are working correctly.
- Give equipment space to breathe - blocked vents = trapped heat.
- Avoid using laptops on soft surfaces like beds or sofas.
- Avoid stacking equipment in ways that restrict airflow.
- If possible, monitor room temperatures, particularly where servers and network equipment are stored.
- Shut down unused devices to reduce heat build up.

Even when we aren't in a heatwave, maintaining a cool operating environment can help improve reliability and extend the lifespan of your IT equipment.

If you’re worried about overheating, want to make sure your systems are summer‑ready, have any concerns about your IT infrastructure or would like any advice on improving cooling and ventilation, our engineers can help.

Stay cool and stay productive! www.smart.uk.com
