Did you know it’s St. Swithin’s Day?
If it rains today, it rains for forty days. The old rhyme goes: St Swithin’s day if thou dost rain, For forty days it will remain. St Swithin’s day if thou be fair, For forty days ’twill rain nae mair.”

If you are using carousels and reels like they do the same job. This is for you!
They might both sit on your Instagram grid, but they work very differently, and if you understand that, your content gets a whole lot smarter.
Carousels are brilliant for the people who already know you. They give you space to go deeper, explain an idea properly, tell a story, teach something useful, or share a point of view with a bit more substance. They’re less about chasing random attention and more about building connection with the audience you’ve already earned. They’re the format that helps turn followers into a proper community. The people who are already in your world are more likely to slow down, swipe through, save your post, share it, or leave a comment, and those early engagement signals can help the content travel further.
And if your cheerleaders (we see you … we love you) engage… well instagram will push your content.
Reels play a different game.
Reels are built for discovery, and where you’ll find your new followers. They’re much more likely to be shown to people who have never heard of you, never seen your face, and have absolutely no reason to care unless you give them one fast. That’s why reels need to get to the point quickly. The hook matters more. The framing matters more. The clarity matters more. You’re not speaking to a warm audience who already understands your context. You’re speaking to a stranger who is scrolling at speed and deciding in seconds whether to stay or move on.
If you’re making a carousel, think depth, trust, value, and engagement. Give your existing audience something worth sitting with.
If you’re making a reel, think speed, curiosity, clarity, and stopping power. Give new people a reason to notice you before they scroll straight past.
So before you create anything, ask yourself one question:
Am I trying to nurture the audience I already have, or reach the audience I don’t have yet?
Because once you know that, your content gets sharper, your message gets clearer, and you stop forcing one format to do a job it was never built to do.
Carousels build connection.
Reels build reach & new followers

If I was your social media manager - Florist edition 🌸
If I was planning content for a florist brand, this is the kind of mix I’d build:
signature work, behind the scenes, client love, flower care tips, seasonal picks, style, story, and an easy path to order.
Building an account to give people more than one reason to follow…. Full of personality, trust, and a sense of what it feels like to buy from you ♥️
The aim of each post is intentional (not random posting for the sake of it!) based upon your business plan, and tracked to see what works and is not working for you…
Who should I do next?!!!!
