Our northern half is currently at home at the Shetland Folk Festival! You can catch Barry Nisbet to join in with some singing and dancing of the brilliant Hildina ballad on Friday, and also solo at the Shetland Heritage Concert at Mareel, 2pm on Sunday 🔥🕺🏻🎻

Absolute privelege to work again with .blair.insta.65 recording 6 tracks for , a seriously impressive array of microphones and a matchless level of skill and experience capturing my fiddle, guitar and vocals; and 's marimba, hammered mbira, percussion and BVs.

Acoustics were stunning in this Dundee venue too.

We'll be very excited to launch these tracks; we've been writing, composing and arranging all winter, using 3 languages (Shaetlan, Norn, English) and breaking many of the normal rules of trad music (sorry...) - it's an immense buzz to commit them to reality!

My proudest personal contribution is coining the phrase 'mbira o' clock'...

Such a great time recording this week, we couldn't have been in better hands (and thanks to Ken for not just putting up with some nonsense, but encouraging it) 🤩

Earlier this week we spent three days recording contemporary folk-Nordic duo, Aespeniða, in the superb acoustics of 19th century Gilfillan Memorial Church, Dundee. Six brand new compositions by Miriam Iorwerth on marimba and percussion, and Barry Nisbet on fiddle, guitar and vocals.

Today has been a rehearsal day, and our first six tracks are almost ready to commit to tape, '1's and '0's.

Here's a snippet we took earlier as perfects his frozen harmonics over the marimba riff on 'Ice', our anthem of cold desolation. ❄️ 🌬️⛄
