Torticollis or Head Turn Preference? 👶🏽

Torticollis is the shortening of the Sternocleidomastoid muscle in your neck which causes the infant to hold their head in a rotated and tilted position.

Whereas a Head Turning Preference is when the child builds a preference to lie with their head turned to one side without tilting.

Both head positions can result in neck muscles tightness causing reduced neck movement and head shape changes.

If you have any concerns regarding your child’s head and neck posture, get in touch through email. We would be happy to assess and provide practical advice.

Traction apophysitis is a term used for a group of conditions that tends to affect children who are having a ‘growth spurt’.

Osgood Schlatters Disease is a type of traction apophysitis

🦵It tends to affect active children aged 11- 15 and is more common in boys.
🦵The main symptom is pain just below the front of the knee; sometimes there is also a tender lump.
🦵Often, the pain is noticed after a high level of physical activity but with rest it tends to settle.
🦵Osgood-Schlatter disease is typically the result of rapid growth and pulling of the quadriceps tendon around the growth plate of the knee.

Physiotherapists have the knowledge and skill in the management of Traction Apophysitis.

If your child is struggling with knee pain, book in today for assessment and advice with us. Availability every Saturday morning 🤸‍♂️
