This week our fabulous Women On The Loose group hopped on the train to Linlithgow for a visit to the town and the magnificent Palace where Mary Queen of Scots was born on a cold wintery night in 1542.
Linlithgow Palace is utterly beautiful and the staff were wonderful, we all learned a lot thanks to the welcoming talk from the custodian, so thank ye kindly Historic Environment Scotland
We also had a wonderful and interactive talk all about the role of a seamstress and embroiderer in the Royal Household back in the day.
It was also so lovely of local lass Janette who took us under her wing and gave us a braw tour of the town and told us of it's great past including the tale of how Linlithgow natives came to be called 'Black Bi***es',
"People from Linlithgow are affectionately and proudly called "Black Bi***es". This local nickname stems from an ancient legend about a loyal black greyhound (a "bitch") who swam across Linlithgow Loch daily to bring food to her imprisoned master, ultimately saving him from starvation"

Janette rounded our day off with a nice cuppa in her lovely garden, such is the generosity and kindness of Black Bi***es.

Coffee! Anyone?
Pop along to our coffee mornings on Monday 6th of July 2026 in the Conservatory, Saughton Park from 10:30 to 12:30.
The coffee mornings are a nice way to keep in touch with us, each other and our lovely volunteers.
Everyone likes a cuppa and a blether after all especially if it's served up by our Shona and Pete 😀

CHILDRENS BOOKS NEEDED URGENTLY

Hello everyone, we have been partnering with The Children's Book Project for a while now and we are in need of children's books as we currently have none left in stock.
So far, thanks to you, our generous Health All Round friends 823 books have been donated.
These have now all been put out in bookcases and into the wee hands of bairns at the medical practices we work in.

You can drop any spare chiildrens books that you may have into our office at 24 Westfield Avenue Monday to Thursday from 9.30am to 4pm

Thank you.
