Writing this probably looks like commercial self-harm. I fix CNC machines for a living. Telling shops how to stop calling people like me isn't supposed to be the pitch.

But the truth is, the routine stuff — the parameter tweak, the alarm code somebody Googled in the van — was never the work I wanted anyway. Clear that out and we get to do the actual job: the faults that need twenty years of scar tissue to diagnose.

What I see on every other site visit is the same pattern. An engineer pinned to a phone for 85% of the callout, ringing the one or two people in the company who actually know the machine, while the customer's bank balance quietly drains in the background.
