Affectionately known as 'The Potteries', Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire was once the world's leading pottery manufacturer. 💛
Since the 18th century, its iconic bottle ovens have defined the area's skyline.
Middleport Pottery was built in 1888 and has been producing its world-famous blue and white Burleigh Pottery ever since.
Built beside the Trent and Mersey Canal, ceramic goods were placed onto barges and transported to the coast of England, ready to be exported internationally.

The dining and refreshment rooms of Retford Railway Station contain a rare survival of ornate tiling from the late 1800s. 🟡 ⬜ 🔷
Built between 1891 and 1892, the building (newly listed at Grade II) was designed by architect Henry Goddard in the Italianate villa style favoured by the Great Northern Railway company.
Having been covered with plasterboard for years, the decoration has miraculously survived the many renovations the station has undergone and was recently uncovered by Bassetlaw Railway Society. They plan to restore the rooms to their former glory.
During the Second World War, the station was repurposed as a canteen and restroom by the Women’s Voluntary Service, serving HM and Allied Forces over two million meals between 1940 and 1946.
