MORTGAGE PAYMENT HOLIDAY EXPLAINED
As you may have been hearing in the news recently, if you are impacted by current coronavirus events then you may qualify for a mortgage payment holiday. You can take up to 3 months where your monthly payments will be put on hold (interest will still accrue on your mortgage).
There is confusion as to what impact this will have after the 3 months, so let me explain;
The monthly payments plus interest you miss will be added back onto the mortgage over the remaining term and would mean a slight increase to your monthly payments after the break. This is an example of what it could look like based on a 3 month holiday:
Current mortgage: £100,000
Interest rate: 2.75%
Term remaining: 20 years
Current monthly payment: £542
New monthly payment (after holiday): £551
Monthly increase: £9
So if you are concerned going forward or would like to discuss your situation now with our mortgage broker, existing or new clients, this is something we can help you with. All advice and processing of mortgage payment holidays will be free of charge.
