Shout out to this surgery team, who recently used a ‘swing room’ hospital model to complete eight challenging surgeries in a single day.

The swing room model at West Middlesex Hospital gives surgeons access to two operating theatres next to each other at the same time so they can perform emergency procedures in one and elective surgery – operations planned in advance – in the other.

Through careful planning, the team ensured safe and efficient turnovers between patients, performing eight complex operations for laparoscopic cholecystectomies (to remove the gallbladder), skin lesion excisions (removal of skin with abnormal growths or appearances to that around it) and hernia repairs.

Anna Kamocka, Consultant Bariatric, Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgeon at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, said: “I am extremely proud to be a part of such a fantastic team that made this possible.

“Following this achievement, with all patients making speedy recoveries, we hope to continue using innovative methods such as this one to provide care for our community.”

Thank you to the team at West Middlesex Hospital for going above and beyond for Londoners. 💙
