I was concerned to read reports that Pennon has approved a £270,000 bonus payment to former South West Water CEO Susan Davy, alongside a further £87,000 award.
Last year, I sat on the Water (Special Measures) Bill Committee, where I joined MPs from across the House in pushing for tougher rules on bonuses for water company executives.
Following the Brixham cryptosporidium outbreak, which resulted in a criminal conviction and a record £1.8 million fine for South West Water, many local people will rightly question whether this decision is appropriate.
Whilst Pennon may argue that these payments were made at group level, and not by South West Water directly, customers deserve clear reassurance that their water bills have played no part in funding them.
That is why I have written to Pennon seeking clear answers and assurances on behalf of local people.

It was a pleasure to visit St Andrew's House in Exmouth and meet with Lynne and Nikki to learn more about the work being delivered by Salvation Army Homes.
The visit provided an excellent opportunity to tour the facilities, meet staff and residents, and hear about the support available for adults with complex mental health needs. I was particularly impressed by the organisation's commitment to helping people develop the skills and confidence needed to live independently.
Thank you to Lynne, Nikki and the entire team for the warm welcome and for the important work you do to support people across .
Last week, I secured a Government commitment to examine whether water and sewage infrastructure can support the scale of housing growth proposed by the Liberal Democrat-run East Devon District Council.
In Parliament, I raised concerns that thousands of new homes could place additional pressure on already overstretched wastewater systems, and highlighted the need to learn lessons from previous developments where infrastructure failed to keep pace with growth.
The Liberal Democrats on East Devon District Council are proposing to build tens of thousands of new homes across our area, and I do not have faith that South West Water will keep pace with all this new development.
I soon hope to be hosting a public town hall meeting on the proposed EXMO_20 development, where local people will have the opportunity to hear from East Devon District Council, South West Water, developers and other key stakeholders. And to ask questions and raise concerns about the impact on infrastructure, the environment and local services. Watch this space for further updates.
