As we've seen in the last couple of months, LinkedIn can be a fantastic source of residential interior design clients. But LinkedIn restricts the number of connection requests we can send. So, does this mean we should concentrate our connection strategy on just potential interior design clients? Not necessarily, no. And this is due to how the LinkedIn search engine works.

When you search on LinkedIn the engine will first go through your connections (1st degree). And then their connections (2nd degree). Finally, your connections’ connections (3rd degree). As such, the range of your search is dependent upon your number of connections. The number of your connections' connections, and so on. As shown in the post's image.

Although LinkedIn users have on average 930 connections, a tiny proportion of accounts really distort the average. Most likely, your network is between 200 and 400 connections. The same is likely to the case for your connections' networks. And their connections' networks.

To boost your LinkedIn search range, connect with those users that distort the average number of connections. That's to say, those with massive networks. For example, recruitment consultants, business-to-business salespeople, and CEOs of large organisations. Just make sure those connections with big networks operate in the same industries as your target clients.
