STRONGER IS FASTER: DOMINATE THE MOTO 🏁
Think strength training is just for bodybuilders? Think again. For a motocross racer, overall body strength is imperative to prevent the effects of cumulative fatigue and maintain proper bike position and efficiency throughout an entire week of racing.
Here is how specific strength training translates directly to faster lap times:
1. MANAGE THE MASS
You aren’t just moving your body; you’re wrestling a machine that weighs anywhere from 45kg to 90kg+. When you combine the weight of the motorcycle with the laws of physics that exponentially add resistance to your working muscles, high force production is the only way to finish a race as strong as you started.
2. NEUROMUSCULAR POWER
Weight training "teaches" your nervous system to recruit a wide variety of motor units, and type A and B muscle fibres. This rapid fiber solicitation allows your muscles to reach maximum output in a shorter window of time essential for holeshots and aggressive passing.
3. UNLOCK THE "ASSISTERS"
By utilizing the Overload Principle, you subject your muscles to incremental loads that increase fiber recruitment. This prepares your secondary "assistant" muscles to step up and finish the task once your primary muscle groups begin to fatigue.
4. PRO-LEVEL INSURANCE
Strength training increases bone density through tensile force and stabilizes joints by strengthening tendons and ligaments. This engages your body’s self-protecting mechanism—the Golgi Apparatus —allowing you to absorb large impacts without the typical broken bones or torn-up knees that end a season.
STOP GUESSING. START TRAINING.
To find new levels of speed, you must identify your weaknesses and address these variables specifically.
