🏆 CHAMPIONS 🏆

Last Saturday, a group of young men reunited for something far bigger than rugby.

Hosted by Blackwood RFC, the annual Papyrus 7’s Touch Tournament raises vital awareness and funds for PAPYRUS – Prevention of Young Su***de, a charity doing incredible work to help save young lives.

The tournament holds deep meaning for both clubs. Blackwood RFC tragically lost Rhydian Poole, while Penallta RFC continues to remember and honour one of our own, Ieuan Strutt, who we sadly lost in March 2020.

We entered a team named The Penallta Strutt’s – made up entirely of the boys who grew up playing mini and junior rugby alongside Ieuan, coached by Bryan Harris and his uncle and coach, Matthew Jackson.

Six years had passed since many of these lads had taken to the field together, making it an incredibly emotional day for the players, coaches and parents alike.

What followed was a day that none of us will ever forget.

Ieuan Strutt.

Captain Sam Scarfe proudly led the side, while Huw Robins scored the winning try in the final to seal a memorable victory.

This wasn’t just about lifting a trophy. It was about friendship, memories, remembrance and showing that rugby can bring people together for a cause that matters so much.

A huge thank you to Blackwood RFC for hosting such a fantastic event and to everyone who supported PAPYRUS. Together we continue to raise awareness, start conversations and help prevent young su***de.

🏆 CHAMPIONS! 🏆

A proud moment for everyone at Penallta RFC as our 2nd XV were officially presented with the WRU Division 6 East Championship Trophy following an outstanding 2025-26 season.

During our End of Season Presentation Evening, WRU representative Roy Wilkinson presented the title winning trophy to 2nd XV Captain Luke Purnell, recognising the hard work, commitment and success of a squad that has represented the club with immense pride throughout the campaign.

From the first whistle of the season to lifting the trophy, this group has shown incredible dedication, teamwork and determination to earn the title of WRU Division 6 East Champions.

Congratulations to Luke, the entire squad, coaches, volunteers and supporters who have played their part in this fantastic achievement.
