Woolly things Highland Folk Museum ๐Ÿ‘

Earlier this month, I popped down the road to the Highland Folk Museum in Newtonmore.

This open-air museum stretches across a one-mile site, with over 35 historic buildings exploring Highland life from the 1700s to the 1950s.

From a period schoolroom and farming equipment to an old sweetie shop and the reconstructed Baile Gean Township, entry is by donation.

I couldnโ€™t resist playing โ€œspot the woolโ€ and ooh, I was rewarded, from a cabled cardigan in the curling shed to shelves of cones of wool in more than one historic shop setting.

Isnโ€™t it amazing to think that wool has been part of our story for so long? The oldest known wool trousers are around 3,300 years old. While these pieces at the museum are a little more recent, theyโ€™re such a lovely reminder that wool has always been woven through everyday life.
