🦷 Time for the horses to see the dentist! 🐴

Did you know horses need regular dental check-ups just like we do?

Today it was time for our equine dentist to give everyone’s teeth a thorough examination and treatment where needed. Routine dental care is an essential part of keeping our horses happy, healthy and comfortable.

Regular dental visits help to:
🦷 Prevent sharp edges that can cut the cheeks and tongue.
🌾 Improve chewing, helping horses get the most nutrition from their food.
😊 Keep them comfortable when wearing a headcollar or bridle.
⚖️ Support healthy weight and overall wellbeing.
💚 Spot any dental problems early before they become more serious.

Our students love getting involved by observing the procedures (from a safe distance), learning about equine anatomy and welfare, and understanding why preventative healthcare is such an important part of responsible horse ownership.

A huge thank you to our equine dentist for taking such wonderful care of our herd. We think Smokey was an absolute superstar today! ⭐🐴

🐝 Helping protect our local wildlife one trap at a time 🐝

This week at TEAL, our young people have been taking part in an important conservation project by helping to build and prepare Asian Hornet monitoring traps as part of the local monitoring scheme.

Asian hornets pose a significant threat to our native pollinators, particularly honey bees, and monitoring their spread helps protect our local wildlife and ecosystems.

Our students have been:
🔍 Learning about invasive species
🧪 Preparing monitoring traps
🌿 Discussing biodiversity and conservation
📍 Understanding how citizen science helps local communities
🐝 Exploring the importance of protecting pollinators

We are incredibly grateful to the Kent Downs National Landscape team for supporting the project and providing traps for use within our local area.

Projects like these provide wonderful opportunities for practical learning, environmental awareness and real-life experiences that make education meaningful and relevant.

Who knew conservation could involve horses, young people and a little bit of detective work? 🕵️‍♂️🐝

We’ll be keeping a close eye on our traps over the coming months and will share any updates along the way.
