Hi, I'm Rachael, teacher and mum to a 7 year old. I started making sensory trays to share with others how to enjoy sensory play.

Experiment from a school book.
You need: an ice cube, a piece of thread and a tsp of salt.
You place the thread on the ice cube and then bring it up, noting how nothing happened.
Then you place the thread on the ice cube again, cover with salt, wait a few seconds and when you lift it the ice cube should lift with it.

It didn't.

We tried different ice cubes, different salt and even different thread. Nothing. Although it didn't work we explored different ways to change the experiment and discussed why with thibk it wasn't successful which wasn't actually more beneficial.
If you want to try, let me know if you succeed!

Coin recognition. Nice interactive game and till. They also used this to play shops.
Lots of language for maths and play, turn taking, number recognition, number matching and a little chance for motor skills by picking up, putting down and pressing.

5 years old and still loves water play!
Child led after rediscovering the measuring beakers in an open cupboard then asked for all the extras or collected herself.
Currently playing 'selling lemonade'.
