Are you working towards hitting a certain milestone in your life where you've finally "made it" and you feel great?

Many of us believe we’ll be successful, worthy, desirable, once we reach a specific point. This could be getting that promotion, finding the love of your life - or even becoming a parent or buying your own home.

It’s tempting to think that if we just work harder or be better, we’ll finally feel good about ourselves.

This belief offers an alluring false sense of control, suggesting that all you need to do is achieve more, and then bingo! You’re finally worthy. Right?

If only it were that simple! Even when you achieve the goals you've put on a pedestal, the goalposts will change. There will be a new promotion to chase, the house needs renovating, the kids need more time, your relationship could be more romantic - it's a never-ending cycle, leaving you always feeling that you are lacking and waiting for that perfect moment where it all falls into place.

Chasing external validation is like trying to fill a bottomless pit; no matter how much you put in, it’s never enough. You deserve to feel worthy, loved and enough right now.

Have you noticed how the most self-sacrificing individuals receive praise and admiration? How do they balance everything so seamlessly when for others just keeping their heads above water is challenging enough? 💬

Well, there are hidden costs of always putting others first. As an outsider you may look around and feel inferior - comparing yourself to the perfect mum with her freshly homemade cookies, running the PTA and looking perfectly polished at the school gates, or to the high-performing colleague who seems to be involved in every project and climbing the ranks constantly. But you should not be deceived by appearances - they may be struggling more than you realise.

From emotional exhaustion to chronic stress and disconnected relationships, the consequences of putting your own needs last are significant and can have a long-term impact on your life. Suppressing your own needs to meet others' expectations can lead to feelings of isolation and anxiety.

Let's talk about the importance of self-respect and setting healthy boundaries. It's time to prioritise your mental health and recognise that seeking therapy is a strength, not a weakness.
