The Anemone Quartet + Maisie Parlane Quintet; Fusebox 23.06.25; Hyde Park Book Club (Snug), 730pm, £5 otd/ free for LCon students
The Anemone Quartet is a new quartet formed by double bassist Olie Brice and pianist Laura Cole, alongside drummer Johnny Hunter and clarinettist/saxophonist/vocalist Faye MacCalman. The impetus behind the quartet is a collaborative combination of compositions/compositional approaches -with each player invited to bring pieces/ideas for the quartet to explore- as well as free playing, poetry and spoken word.

Fusebox 10.03.25 JollyBassJones + Two Threes
come down to Hyde Park Book Club snug on the 10th to see two great ensembles ranging from jazz, folk, to classical!
JollyBassJonesn(cello, violin, piano) first started working together on Gemma Bass's Missing Pieces | part 2 (us) in 2024 and have performed that work across the country, culminating in a release by the same name on efpi records. With interests across classical, jazz, folk and experimental music, the trio work collaboratively and intuitively, avoiding and deconstructing preconceptions of what a piano trio should be. Between them, these three busy musicians have worked with Manchester Camerata, Beats and Pieces Big Band, Opera North, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Bonjour Claude, Efpi All Stars Orchestra, Emma Johnson's Gravy Boat and many more besides.

FUSEBOX 16.04.24 JOHNNY HUNTER QUARTET + APES AGAINST ACCEPTED TRUTH
Johnny Hunter is a northern UK-based drummer and composer who comes from a background of both the Avant-Garde and mainstream Jazz. His own “chordless” quartet, set up to explore the freedom and limitations of having no chordal instrument, taking influence from the likes of John Zorn and Chris Speed, have been recorded and broadcast by BBC Radio 3, and have performed across the country in notable venues such as London’s Ronnie Scott’s, the Manchester Jazz Festival, Birmingham Jazzlines at Symphony Hall, Liverpool International Jazz Festival, among many others.
