An annual Boiler service is not just a quick look over your appliance. It is a critical safety check to test that the appliance is working safely and to the correct specifications set by the manufacturer. There are dozens of vital reasons but I’ll expand on one or two on each post. ⭐️

An annual service is a chance to check and clean any components that require it, as all mechanical component suffer from wear and tear as time passes. To avoid a breakdown when you need it most, a service enables preventative maintenance to be diagnosed and if possible, corrected on the same visit, if not soon after. Avoiding you having an inoperable boiler when it’s needed most. (Sod’s law!) 🌨⛄️

This is one prime example:

This Boiler was due its 5th service and as you can tell by the photographs, this particular ignition component was showing signs of wear (as expected in this family home with high demand). It was swiftly replaced with van stock during the service for a small additional charge. This saved the client having to pay for a separate breakdown call out, and potentially having to wait with no hot water or heating during that period. It also ensures their boiler is running efficiently and most importantly, in a safe and reliable manner! 🔥

Don’t get left out in the cold and importantly, put yourself or your family at risk. Have your appliance serviced today! 💬

Hi everyone! I’ve been called out non stop over the last 24 hours to frozen condensate pipes (white plastic pipe from most (post year 2001) boilers causing central heating and hot water boiler shut down. I am available for call outs and will do my best to get to you!

In the meantime:

Here is some information for you in order to help you in getting your boiler working. ❄️ Please share if you feel it might help others 🔥

Fault code: Your boiler will show a fault code or flashing light. In your manual, it might state an issue along the lines of Condensate pipe. 🙈

Locate external pipe: ❄️(outside)
The condensate pipe removes water from the boiler. As such you will likely find a white or grey plastic pipe emanating from the location of your boiler to the outside wall of the property. In some installations the amount of pipework that runs external to the property can be fairly substantial. As a large amount of the pipe is exposed to the outside conditions, when the weather turns cold the pipe may get blocked when any water within the pipe freezes and turns to ice. Sometimes it will be obvious that the pipe is frozen however in other cases the symptons will be more subtle, hidden away within the pipe itself.

Time to thaw: 🔥
PLEASE DO NOT USE BOILING WATER DIRECT FROM A KETTLE!
The easiest way to deal with a frozen condensate pipe is to put it in contact with warm water. A couple of jugs of warm water poured over the exterior of the pipework is a great remedy. Increasing the temperature within the pipe can cause the ice blockage to subside. If you don’t have a jug then you could also try a warm flannel or hot water bottle. It’s important that you refrain from using boiling water, as although this will likely melt the ice quicker, you may cause more damage as the extreme contrast in temperatures may cause the plastic pipe to crack.

I hope this helps, especially elderly and vulnerable folk or young families. Please share or tag anyone that may benefit. If you are unsure, leave a comment or post a picture and I’ll try and reply or other heating engineer friends can Advise.

Thank you
