Twenty-five years ago, communities organised for fair pay, and it changed lives. Today, that work continues.
Last week, Citizens UK leaders from across the country came together to celebrate 25 years of the and look ahead to what the next 25 years could bring.
The evening included a powerful testimony from a care worker in the North East, working long hours on minimum wage, in a role that demands both physical and emotional strength every single day. Her story is a reminder of exactly why this work matters.
Here’s what that organising has achieved in Leeds alone — accredited Living Wage employers grew from just 9 in 2015 to 74 by 2021. That is what organised communities can do. 💪🏽
At Complete Woman, we are committed to continuing this movement, engaging local MPs, strengthening Living Wage campaigns across West Yorkshire, and standing firmly for the dignity of every care worker.
And now, the campaign is merging with the Living Wage campaign, marking the beginning of a powerful national movement for care workers across England.
Fair pay.
Dignity at work.
A care system that values people over profit.
The next 25 years start today.

This Volunteers Week, we want to celebrate our incredible team of over 11 volunteers who show up in so many ways…
• Supporting at our foodbank
• Showing up at the Leeds Sponsored Workers Hub
• Running social activities, kids club, and day events
• Accompanying mums on trips away
• Delivering and fixing things behind the scenes..yes, our delivery driver and handyman too 🙌🏽
• And also, our service users who step up as community organisers for our local and national campaigns.
Every single role and person matters.
To our volunteers, you are not just helping us deliver a service. You are part of the reason women in our community feel seen, supported, and less alone.
