Regretfully, Somewhere Else (SWE) – the Bread Church has had to make the decision to close permanently.

This has not been an easy journey for either the SWE leadership or the Emmaus circuit, but a combination of factors has resulted in this decision being the only option open to us.

Much prayerful discernment over several months by the leadership team has already led to conversations with facilitators and many community members. It is time now to let the wider diaspora know. We are all sad to see this important city centre ministry ending after almost 25 years of pioneering work but hope that in the future a new Methodist ministry will be enabled in Liverpool City Centre to work alongside all those in our community, but especially the marginalised, whom we have served in the past.

We recognise that this news will bring up varied emotions including, for many, feelings of loss. We would like to invite you to share a memory or two to help us work through this together. Please post your memories here or send them to [email protected]. We will collate and share them over the coming weeks.

SWE has never been about the building, but always about the people, with the influence of this, always fragile, community reaching across the world as well as here in the Liverpool District. Our recipe of offering an experience of Christ through the outrageous hospitality of baking and sharing bread has been transformational for so many who have crossed our threshold.

We have been deeply humbled and honoured to walk alongside so many people on their personal journey, whether they spent one day with us, stayed awhile on placement, or returned over and over again.

We thank you for your past support and ask for your prayers in this, the last part of the Bread Church’s life. The fellowship and friendships we have encountered over the years are amazing and will continue to be important to us.

Please continue to follow us until the doors on Bold Street, Liverpool finally close.

Best Wishes

Community of SWE leadership team (CoSWE)

We had an interesting discussion this morning during reflections around doubt and fears. There are lots of things that we know exist and don't even question them yet we cannot see them: air, our brains, Wi-Fi, emotions, gravity! But how do we know these things exist? Is it because people tell us, we see the effects of these things or maybe its just faith. We often need to have faith in things we cannot see in order to reap the blessings and rewards of them - just like Jesus' resurrection! So don't be a Doubting Thomas - have faith in the unseen!

ANNOUNCEMENT
Please be aware that we have made some alterations to our Tuesdays and Thursdays. In the month of March we will be doing breadmaking only once a week, alternating between Tuesday and Thursday, whilst the other day will be a chance to pop in for a coffee, have a chat and connect with others in the community. Please see the details below for what days we will be bread-making and which will be our "A2B" (Alternative to Bread) days. We look forward to seeing you!

Last week was Random Act of Kindness Day.
Our minister, Caroline, joined us for reflections and lunch today which was lovely. She told us a story about her experience of Random Act of Kindness Day which was last week. She was stood in the petrol station and remembered she needed milk so picked some up before joining the queue. The man behind her tapped her on the shoulder and said that for Random Acts of Kindness Day he would like to buy her milk for her, which she was very grateful for. It was a lovely gesture from a stranger.
So what is something you can do today to offer someone some kindness? Here's a few suggestions for you to try.
Give someone a hug
Tell someone you love them or are proud of them
Give a stranger a smile
Buy a coffee for a friend
Make something handmade for someone
Offer to help someone out with carrying their shopping
Pray for a stranger
