In 2017-18, I was involved in the making of two documentary series that have just been ranked amongst the best Netflix shows of all time - "Formula One: Drive to Survive" and "Sunderland 'Til I Die" (with the only doc shows above them are "The Last Dance" and "Making a Murderer"). I remember coming into "Sunderland" with the confidence of knowing that 'this is how to tell stories'. I dived in trying to be as true as possible to what I knew would make compelling stories that were emotional as well as 'exciting'; essentially as complete as possible and always having a deeper meaning threaded through the action. Fullwell73 were incredibly encouraging. Following that, I moved to Box to Box films and took the same attitude to a new series to being made about F1. As the series editor (which is an editorial role - not cutting) I had much more say in how I thought these episodes should be told. I followed my same approach to creating complete stories. Obviously, it worked! I was one part of great teams on both series and, of course, it's great that our work was recognised (as well as becoming huge hits too). To find out more about the methodology I used and to listen to a podcast with the creative director of Fulwell73 (behind the Sunderland series), there are links in my bio, or go directly to apply.thedocfix.com All the best - Nigel
