ASTHMA
is a condition in which your airways narrow and swell and may produce extra mucus
This can make breathing difficult and trigger coughing, a whistling sound (wheezing) when you breathe out and shortness of breath
Asthma can't be cured, but its symptoms are can be controlled. Because asthma often changes over time, its important that you work with your doctor to track your symptoms and signs and adjust your treatment as needed
SYMPTOMS AND SIGNS OF ASTHMA
-Shortness of breath
-Trouble sleeping caused by shortness of breath
-Increasing difficulty breathing
-Chest tightness or pain
-Coughing or wheezing
ASTHMA TRIGGERS
-Cold air
-Airborne allergies such as pollen, dust mities, mold spores, particals of cockroach wastes
-Strong emotion and stress
-Respiratory infections, such as the common cold
-Physical activity
-Sulfites and preservatives added to some types of foods and beverages including dried fruits, processed potatoes, beer and wine
-Air pollutants and irritants such as smoke
-Gastroesophageal reflux disease. A condition in which stomach acids back up in to your throat
-Certain medications including beta blockers, and aspirin and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
PREVENTION OF ASTHMA
-Follow your asthma action plan
-Identify and avoid asthma triggers
-Get vaccinated for influenza and pneumonia
-Identify and treat attack early
-Pay attention to increasing quick relief inhaler use
-Monitor your breathing
-Take your medication as prescribed
