An elderly lady contacted me after a locksmith quoted £49 over the phone, but once on site claimed the lock was “high security” and said it had to be drilled, raising the price to £362.

The locksmith drilled the cylinder but damaged the 2-star handles in the process. He was then unable to remove the cylinder, as the handles required the correct tool to separate them — something he clearly wasn’t aware of.

Despite leaving the job incomplete and the customer unable to secure her door, he took payment and refused to provide a receipt before leaving.
