Daydream Nation #5

Join us at The Rum Shack, Glasgow, on Monday 20th January for our first screening of the new year! Daydream Nation #5 will feature a screening in two parts with a selection of experimental animated films from local and international artists, with a live performance from the amazing Jill Lorean, supported with visuals by Jamie Temple. Tunes across the evening supplied by our very own Karolina Glusiec :)

We are super excited to have Jill Lorean performing songs from her wonderful new album Peace Cult (released in November 2024 on Monohands Records.) This one is a must see! And Jill will be accompanied by live visuals, made from textural mono prints by Jamie Temple.

Daydream Nation is a celebration of short DIY filmmaking, which in many ways carries the qualities and ethos of grunge. If this kind of filmmaking was a music genre then we would call it “visual grunge” !

The line up of films is made up of people that we come to know and love, and will include new and old works from artists including:

Edwin Rostron, Osbert Parker, Wiesia Ruta, Ollie Magee, Weronika Marianna, Zhen Li, Dagna Kidon, Sophie Aicken, Ruby O’Hare, EXYL, Chaerin Im, + more TBA!

We are super happy to have Charmer (a.k.a. Emer and Charlie) performing at this show. We saw them playing a beautiful improvised set back in summer at combining violin and electronics, and have wanted to hear more from them ever since. We can’t wait to hear what they put together for this show, and Karolina will be supporting them with some live visuals too, so not to be missed!!

Tunes across the evening this time from our previous performers Mallet Space.

We are back at The Rum Shack next week for Daydream Nation #3!!

Join us on Monday 16th September where we will be screening a whole new line-up of short animated films from local and international artists, with live performance from Mallet Space Puppet Company, and some tunes across the evening from Andy Monaghan.

For DN #3 we are excited to welcome Mallet Space to the stage, performing their multi media puppet show The Boy Who Learned to Shiver - adapted from a Brothers Grimm tale. If you have been to either of our last events then you probably will have seen films by a few members from the band/collective, so we are super happy to invite the whole group back to share this performance with you :)

It’s also great to have Andy back selecting tunes across the evening! His performance at Daydream Nation #2 was really awesome, so super happy having him involved again xx

We are super happy to introduce who will be performing the live music set for Daydream Nation 2!..

Andy is a Glasgow based producer whose live set explores guitar noise and textures across live looping and ambient moments.

As a member of Frightened Rabbit, Andy has toured internationally for over a decade, and has recorded the likes of We Were Promised Jetpacks, Jill Lorean , Lewis McLaughlin, and more recently he has set up Monohands Records
