Hopping Site specific installation, Hoxton 2015.
PEER Gallery Hoxton : Saturday 19th September 2 - 5pm.

Hopping an Installation to provoke memories of the past. It is a site specific, contemporary piece engaging with materials that draw on the multi layered history of working class culture and values in Hoxton which are fast disappearing. It will commemorate “hopping” and the people who every year packed up their belongings and left the city to travel to Kent, with family and friends, to work in the fields picking hops for a few bob.
Local people will be invited to reflect and share their stories of hop picking and remember those absent.
Hop picking was a labour intensive, repetitive process and the tradition of community gathering and story telling.
The piece will be hung fresh, evoking memories of the past, and over the periodof the exhibition will slowly dry and decay naturally.
Connecting to our own experiences that relates to a place, time, object; or work of art.
