Back in September, the UK government announced a £31 billion tech deal with the US to much fanfare - both metaphorical and real. But now, the New York Times reported this week that the deal has been put on ice. Sources say that the Trump administration is unhappy with the UK for continuing to levy a digital services tax on US tech firms, while our food safety rules prevent the export of some agricultural products. Alphabet announced this week that it will invest $15 billion to build an AI hub in Visakhapatnam, in India’s Andhra Pradesh state. The announcement comes at a time when US companies have faced increasing calls to boycott India by the US government, while there have been protests in the country against the 50% tariff imposed on imported Indian goods by said US government.
